Hugh joined the Northamptonshire Regiment in October 1915 and served in Gallipoli with the British Expeditionary Force. Having been wounded, he was transferred to the Labour Corps. He was awarded the 1914-15 star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. We have not been able to find any record of his connection with Spratton, apart from the fact that his name is on the Roll of Honour in Spratton Church.

He was not in Spratton for the 1921 census.
