Corporal A J BROWN

1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment 13203

A J Brown stated on his military papers that he was born in Spratton, but we have so far found no evidence of this. He may have already been serving in the regular army before 1914 as he was mobilised immediately war was declared and sent to the Western Front with the first British Expeditionary Force.

He took part in the retreat from Mons and the Battles of the Marne, the Aisne, La Bassée, Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, the Somme, Arras and Cambrai and was wounded on 21 March 1917 and two other occasions. He was discharged from the army in February 1919 and returned to live in Stockley Street, Northampton. He was awarded the 1914 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
