Air Mechanic William Henry SNEDKER

Royal Flying Corps 109655

William was born in Northampton in October 1900, the son of William Snedker, a shoe finisher, and his wife Charlotte.  During his early childhood he lived with his mother and grandparents in Northampton, but by the time he was 11, he lived with his mother and father and six brothers and sisters in St James’ End, Northampton.

In November 1917, aged only 17, William joined the RFC and worked as a draughtsman in the Technical Department in London. Despite his efforts to do so, he was not sent overseas, probably because he was very young, and he remained in this country employed on ‘research work’ until he was demobilised in January 1919.

William moved to Spratton just before the war and he is listed on Spratton’s Absent Voters List in 1918. He lived on the Welford Road, Spratton, in a house called ‘Levens’, and died there on 20 September 1943.  Probate was granted to his spinster sister Winifred.
