Article in Northampton Mercury re Spratton Lodge (see map archive reference 2508 from 1824). This article suggests that there was a predecessor house before the current Spratton Grange was built by Lady St John in 1847, and that this earlier house was probably built in the 1810s. Archive reference 2827 is suggestive of the intention to alter and extend this house, but there is no evidence on site of any earlier building, so it is presumed that the earlier house was totally demolished.
Richard Baker and his family are reported to have moved from Harpole in 1830 to farm at Spratton Lodge (he is not the owner or tenant in 1826), and an article in the Northampton Mercury dated 27 September 1845 reports that he is selling up and leaving, as a higher offer (presumably from Lady St John has been achieved for the tenancy.
