Circa 1882
James and Ruth Marlow with their family outside their shop in Brixworth Lane (unknown location). James was Manager of Spratton Branch of the Northamptonshire Co-operative Society until moving with his family to Bewdley, Worcs, in 1885, so presumably this is the Spratton Co-op!
However, a word of caution. The Co-op have no record of a branch in Spratton (it may have been a sub-branch of Brixworth), and the location of this shop is unknown - all the shops in Brixworth Road are and were on a slope, whereas this is not. There may have been a shop elsewhere in the village, but we have no evidence of food shops (of stone construction) other than in Brixworth Road.
Ruth Marlow, Eleanor Rosina Marlow (b. 1873), George Henry Homer Marlow (b. 1871), Arthur Thomas Marlow (b. 1876), Elizabeth Annie Homer Marlow (b. 1871), Edith Ruth Marlow (b. 1879), James Marlow. Rinah Ellen Marlow, the oldest child born in 1869, was living with her aunt and uncle, George and Annie Marlow also shopkeepers, in Brixworth.
