Outside the lower of the thatched houses, which stood on the site of the Millennium Garden, are Mr and Mrs Austin with their granddaughter Mary Wykes. Following the death of their son-in-law, their daughter and two grandchildren, Mary and Harold, lived with them here. Mr Austin was the local agent for Stead's pork pies, which he advertised in the window of the outhouse. The house had no toilet facilities, which were on the other side of what is now the Brixworth Road
