A Farming History of Spratton 1766 - 1914 (2009)

by Michael Heaton

£8 ISBN 978-0-9549857-3-8

  • 72 pages. 60 maps and illustrations, some in colour.

  • An original piece of historic research.

  • It starts with the Enclosure Award of 1766 mapped by the author for the very first time for Spratton. It shows who-owned-what in and around the village in farming terms over the last 250 years. Extensive research has given a very detailed picture of the huge changes in ownership with, at times, nearly half the farmland up for sale! Relationships between the various farming families have emerged and the ebb and flow of old farming names has produced some fascinating insights. Even the odd scandal has surfaced!
