On Sunday 16th March the annual Spratton village litter pick-up took place. Some 60 adults and children braved the wet and windy weather and collected the pile of rubbish seen in the picture. Later, a buffet lunch was laid on by the Kings Head with a free drink courteously provided by the Parish Council. The primary school themed the event by telling the children what the impact was on wildlife and a competition was held for the best colour poster. That is on the good side. On the bad, in a one and a half mile stretch of road between Spratton and Brixworth, 36 vodka bottles were picked up - this is 15 more than last year. So we not only have litterlouts throwing these out of passing cars, but drunken litterlouts! There was also a plethora of broken traffic cones, testimony to drivers ignoring the closed road between the villages and impatiently and wantonly vandalising these. Not to mention the scourge of plastic bags…
