Circa 1900
Lacemaking at the bottom of Holdenby Road (then First Turn).
Cottage windows were small and an open fire could easily soil the delicate lacework so, whenever the weather permitted, lacemakers would work outside
The three houses on the right were demolished to allow buses to take the turn into Church Road. The house behind the lacemaker remains today, it is built of cob, date indeterminate. Those to the left have also been demolished.
